CCTV Drain Surveys and Drain Repair

Super Drain has a dedicated fleet of CCTV and Drain repair vehicles. Camera inspections are carried out to determine the cause of a recurrent problem or prior to the handover of a building post construction.

Super Drain has 2 main-line cameras. These motor powered units feed video footage back to a recording device. This data can then be incorporated into a DVD and hard copy report for the client. Where shorter distances are covered, 3 “push-Rod” cameras are available. These are physically pushed down a drain line on a reel of cable and are ideal for basic short-distance investigations.

Sewer Rehabilitation

CCTV reports can highlight deficiencies in the sewerage network. Super Drain use “Trenchless Technology”for repairs that are not readily accessible or economically viable to repair through conventional digging.

A patch repair technique can be undertaken by impregnating fabric with polyester resin and wrapping it around an inflatable packer in the sewer. The packer is then inflated and presses the patch against the sewer wall while it cures. After curing, the packer is deflated and removed. The patch is then inspected by CCTV.

Where fine roots, concrete or protruding connection pipes are discovered, they can be removed using specialised cutting equipment. Our cutters have a hydraulically driven grinding head that can cope with most materials. A patch can then be applied to restore the pipe integrity. Where there are structural deformities in a pipe, they can be cut out, ground down and subsequently patched. Examples include sharp corners, bellowing and damaged benching.

Drain Repair Methodology

“Patch repair systems are used to repair short, localised lengths of drain whare the remaining drain is in good condition or will be lined using a Cured-in-Place (CIPP) technique.” –Water Research Council Drain Repair Book, 2nd edition
  1. Determine the size of line to be repaired and select appropriate packer. (A packer is an inflatable bung).
  2. There are two resins: brown and white. Mix 500ml brown resin with 150ml white resin in a plastic jug and stir gently for 60 seconds
  3. Cut the fibre glass sheet to the required length. This can be up to 1 meter in length. Cut sufficient width to wrap around the deflated packer twice.
  4. lay the fibre glass mat on a plastic sheet and spread the mixed resin liberally over the complete surface area of the patch, then turn the patch over and repeat.
  5. Test the packer with 2000psi. compressed air from compressor. Then deflate.
  6. Wrap the packer in shrink-wrap/ clingfilm.
  7. Roll the resin laden patch around the wrapped packer and secure in place with 2-3 elastic bands.
  8. Send a camera up the drain pipe to the precise location of the intended patch and Record pre repair survey.
  9. Mark the electronic flex with tape when the camera is at the desired point.
  10. Remove the camera and electric flex from the drain and lay out on the pavement/road.
  11. lay the packer and air line alongside the camera and flex and mark the exact point on the airline that corresponds to the tape location on the electronic flex.
  12. Insert the packer up the pipeline until the precise tape mark is reached.
  13. Send a camera behind the packer to confirm location of intended patch.
  14. Compress packer to 2000psi and check efficacy of packer using camera.
  15. Test the pressure every 15 minutes and inflate where necessary.
  16. Deflate the packer after 65 minutes and withdraw it.
  17. Send camera to verify patch is secure.
  18. Record Post repair survey
